Synopsis
The course on stress management and family counselling covers the theoretical and practical aspects of dealing with stress and counselling. Students are expected to give practical examples of stressful situations and apply theories of counselling to solve the issues. The course also applies Biblical ways of mitigating stress and giving practical illustrations of biblical counselling.
Learning outcomes
It is hoped that by the end of the course students should be able to:
1. Explain the different theories of counselling
2. Describe how to translate theory into counselling practices
3. Explain a list of theoretical terms and concepts routinely used in talking about counselling
4. Assess and analyse the symptoms, causes and effects of personal stressors in order to implement appropriate stress management techniques.
5. Evaluate effectiveness of stress management techniques and revise to meet current needs.
6. Compare the biblical counselling techniques to circular techniques and be able to combine both techniques.
