INSY 211: MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS


This module provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles, methods, and techniques of
MIS,a comprehensive foundation in Management Information Systems (MIS) and its role in
modern business organizations. It examines how information systems are used to improve business
processes, support decision-making, achieve competitive advantage, and enable digital
transformation. Students will explore the components of information systems, business
intelligence, databases, ERP, e-commerce, information security, and emerging technologies such
as AI, Cloud Computing, and Big Data. The course integrates theory with hands-on practicals
using MIS tools ERP simulations, and data visualization tools.


COURSE RATIONALE: COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Explain the fundamental concepts, components, and roles of MIS in business
organizations.
2. Analyze different types of information systems: TPS, MIS, DSS, ESS, ERP, CRM
3. Demonstrate understanding of database management, data warehousing, and business
intelligence.
4. Evaluate the role of information systems in achieving competitive advantage and
supporting decision-making.
5. Apply practical skills MIS ,database, and data visualization (Power BI AND Excel
Dashboards).
6. Assess information security, privacy, ethical, and legal issues in MIS.
7. Project -Design a simple information system solution for a real business problem and
present
8. Understand emerging technologies: Cloud, AI, IoT, Blockchain, and their business
implications.
