Course Description

This course explores all aspects of the creation of a new venture from idea through startup, growth, and beyond. The course allows participants to evaluate opportunities, develop strategies, create a business plan and acquire financing for a new venture. In this course students will develop a business plan for a new venture.

This course leads to

an understanding of the nature of enterprise and entrepreneurship

and introduces the role of the entrepreneur, innovation and technology in the entrepreneurial process.

Entrepreneurship involves both a way of thinking and of doing. It involves "building something from nothing" and successful entrepreneurs know how to manage and mitigate uncertainty and risk.

Course Objectives

Given that entrepreneurship and innovation are a must need in any 21st century nation and citizens. The course therefore seeks to develop an Entrepreneurial intention in the graduate student. The Course follows the philosophy of one of the great Gurus of Business Peter Drucker.

 

 

Course Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1Discuss the attitudes, values, characteristics, behavior, and processes associated with possessing an entrepreneurial mindset and engaging in successful appropriate entrepreneurial behavior.

2Discuss what is meant by entrepreneurship and innovation from both a theoretical and practical perspective, and the role of the entrepreneur in the new enterprise creation process.

3Describe the ways in which entrepreneurs perceive opportunity, manage risk, organize resources and add value.

4Develop a plan for implementing entrepreneurial activities in a globalized and competitive environment being responsible for the social, ethical and culture issues.

5Critique a plan for implementing entrepreneurial activities in a globalized and competitive environment being mindful of the social, ethical, moral, religious and culture issues.

6Engage in a continuing learning process through the interaction with peers in related topics, as individuals and as team members.

Grading system

 

The final grade is based on the following factors:

 

3 Reflection Papers 15 %

Mid-term exam (online open book) 20 %

Term paper 15 %

Final examination 50%

 

Reflection Papers (due every Monday)

 

A reflection paper will comprise of a summary of your understanding of each chapter in the book by Drucker that is divided into the three sections (Part1 – 3).

 

The summary should be at least one page and not exceed 2 pages (single spaced)

 

In section one summarize only the chapters on the sources of innovation (chapter 3- 9)

 

From chapter 3- 9, you will summarize two (2) chapters only

 

These should be submitted on every Sunday evening latest Monday evening of every week.

 

From Part two of the course outline you will only summarize one chapter

 

From Part three- you will summarize 2 chapters only.

 

Term paper _ Is your own researchable term paper on this course Innovation or Business plan (15%) (due ASAP).

The grading scale is that of the masters’ scale as stipulated by Solusi University
