The course seeks to explain and define religion
the reason why are people religious as well as the methods of studying religion.
The course also introduces the phenomenological method and looks at the benefits
of this method in studying religion. Various definitions of religion are
analysed and the strengths and weaknesses are given so that a more accommodative
definition may be obtained. The course through the phenomenological approach maintains
that no religion should be looked down at or despised. The strengths and the weaknesses
of the phenomenological approach are looked at as well as its application to
world religions. The course traces the origins as well as the teachings and the
doctrines of the major religions of the world for example Christianity, Islam,
Hinduism and Buddhism and several others. Comparing and contrasting these
religions is done to show the similarities as well as the differences. This may
help to inculcate tolerance and respect for other religions
