Calculators have been long and widely used as the primary tool in corporate finance, investments financial statements planning and analysis. Information and technological revolutions of the 21st century world has led to the emergence and use of Spreadsheet Modelling in Accounting and Finance. Spreadsheet Models are widely used by finance personnel in the business world in applying financial theory to real life situations, which is the essence of Financial Modelling.

The Financial Modelling Course, FNCE290, prepares students to have a paradigm shift of finance education, a change from being calculator based to being spreadsheet modelling based. The course is a hands on experience of financial theory put in practice using software packages, mainly plain vanilla Microsoft Excel with the add-ins, Analysis Tool Pack and Solver which can be downloaded from the portal.

The course is suitable for students seeking a career in finance, but also for students with broader interests who wish to strengthen their general modelling skills, and it does not require any quantitative background other than what is covered in the Department of Finance core courses.
