Course Description

Exposure in Accounting Reporting for legal practice and Financial Accounting conforming with the Companies Act and Accounting Standards. The course will cover published accounts and financial statements in conformity with the companies act in this course. The course also introduces the student to the technical aspects and application of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

Course Objectives

This is the second part of the two parts of Financial Accounting ll. The course is intended to provide the student with the ability to:

Measure the financial performance of organizations.

Apply accounting systems designed to facilitate internal control and financial of organisations with branches.

Apply accounting practices applicable so specified specialized transactions.

Apply principles of Measurement, Recognition and Disclosure as defined by various IFRSs

Prepare basic disclosure notes and financial statement extracts for published accounts as required by the Companies Act and IFRS

Course Policies

1. Attendance and class participation:

Regular attendance to class is very important. Active class participation is an indicator of conceptual and attitudinal growth. Students are encouraged to conscientiously share ideas, insights, resources, and experiences with the class. Work in small groups, but should refrain from duplicating or photocopying other student’s work.

2. Missed Exams

A make-up exam will be scheduled for students who have talked with the professor before the exam and have an approved absence, or have had a documented illness/family emergency.

3. Classroom Courtesy and Respectful Discussion

Students are expected to arrive to class on time. During class, students are expected to be respectful by listening carefully to others and not engaging in disruptive or distracting behavior. Every student has the right to disagree with opinions expressed by the professor or other students, however the student must respond in a courteous, respectful way that ensures a safe and tolerant classroom environment.

4. Academic Dishonesty

Completed assignment should be the work of the person whose name appears on the paper, created for that specific purpose. Students must be completely honest in all work presented and please note that any form of academic misconduct will not be tolerated
