this course introduces the student to Language from a Scientific perspective (which is how Linguistics id defined). Basically the Course seeks to make students cognisant of the different perspectives of looking at Language where we can look at it from a Phonetics and Phonology perspective (i.e we study the sound systems), the Morphological perspective (in which we study the geography of words), the Syntactic (looking at the formulation of sentences), the Semantic (the meaning of sentences), the Pragmatic (meaning located in context) and the Discoursal Perspective. Language, it should be understood, is the vehicle for communication and as such an understanding of language should enhance our communicative abilities; which is the thrust of this introductory course.
It is my hope that this course will create in learners a love for language and its intricate aspects.
